All in all, the last few days have been pretty good. Tim's labs on Wednesday showed that he's back within normal range on almost all the markers. On Thanksgiving, we went for a 2 mile walk, and even managed a mini-Thanksgiving dinner when we came home. (Still pretty iffy as far as food goes, and being cautious about being around too many people.) Yesterday, Tim's chemo went reasonably well. While we were set up for the 4 hour IV drip in Kaiser's Chemo Suite (not sure what it's really called), we managed to work on our plant photos while various other cancer patients came and went for their treatments. We were there the longest by far. The post-chemo pattern for Tim seems to be that he feels reasonably well the first day or so, then the wave of sickness, nausea and no appetite hit and last for 4 or more days. He starts feeling well just as he's got to go back in for the next round of chemo. This seems to be a fairly typical pattern for many chemo treatments. Tim has beginning to get a handle on managing the nausea better -- knock on wood.
Paul is feeling fairly anxious about his upcoming chemo. A lot of unknowns. Unknown which of many possible side-effects will develop. The main chemo drug is a newer incarnation of the infamous thalidimide. Unknown how well Paul will be able to function because he's too fatigued or has the "chemo brain." Or, maybe he'll be too wired. For one of his chemo drugs, Paul will be getting 4 x the dose that Tim gets -- and that one leaves Tim totally unable to fall aslseep at night. In preparation for his chemo, Paul decided to buy pill boxes and get all his pills arranged by day and time. Never in his wildest imagination did Paul think things would come to this!
Today we were both feeling ok. We went off for a few errands and worked in the yard a bit. It's cool out, and we've got lots of leaves to rake. But, it was nice to be able to get outside and be a little more active.
